EVALUATION

Overall, I believe that this progression unit has been successful and very beneficial to me. It has taught me many skills that I would have lacked in later life whilst also helping me with my well-being and overall health.

Training Drama
The training drama was one of the very first topics that we came across in the progression unit. I feel that this was a very successful project for my teammates and I as I feel we met the target and presented a very informative yet light hearted piece of work. The planning was most definitely the strongest point for us as it was in so much detail and anyone would have been able to follow it and create the exact image in our heads due to the detail. Another one of our strengths was our team work – we had a very good dynamic and therefore got all of our work done to its best ability. When planning I allocated separate jobs out to the team member so we had our own space but knew exactly what to do, I think that this really helped with planning and will definitely be something I will take on board in future group projects. However, there were a few hiccups throughout like any normal project! The point of this was to plan a training drama perfectly to then give to another team to complete. Unfortunately for us, the team who gave us their planning documents had included very little detail which meant it would have been impossible for us to create their idea of a training drama. Although it was a difficult situation as we did not want confrontation, we let them know that it wasn’t good enough and made a decision to complete our own training drama as we were so pleased with how the planning went. This was a difficult situation but we managed to overcome it calmly which is something I am not great at so this was a huge success for me.

Phone Skills

Although I like to think that my phone skills are good as I work front of house, this element of the project was very insightful and I learned a lot. The phone call in production I did with Joe was short but I believe it included everything that it needed to. I was well spoken and did not include any jargon or slang words which are a major thing for phone skills; even if you know the person on the phone you always have to be professional and well spoken. I answered the questions in detail and made sure to ask him if there was anything else he needed – this was a statement that I rarely used on the phone at work as I didn’t believe it mattered but now I have practiced using it I will be sure to include it in future phone calls. This was an efficient task as we only used our phones so had to communicate with voices instead of facial expressions and hand gestures like a normal conversation would – making it so much more important to be enthusiastic. This is also a con of this topic though as these expressions are key to conversations meaning there may be miss communications throughout.

Formal Letter
My formal letter was tailored to a company who I have wanted to work for for a very long time, I chose to write it to this company as in 3 months or so I will be sending off a formal letter to them. A success of this letter is my language – I feel like I managed to articulate myself very well and get some points across quickly without rambling. I asked for some feedback on this element as I felt like if I was to write it again I would want it to be perfect. Jacob said ‘the letter is very well written and the paragraphs are short, sweet and get straight to the point you want to get to. It includes some of your skills in the industry but also talks about you as a person. The only thing I have to say negative is that next time you include more things related to the industry instead of just listing some of the software’. I will be taking this feedback on board and will re-do this to the best on my ability next time by not just listing things but telling them what I could offer to the company and how employing me would be beneficial to them.

CV 2020
My old CV was worn and very boring to read as it was on a word document with no visuals. When told about canva I was very excited to ‘do up’ it and include more current information that is interesting to businesses. I chose the bright and bold background as I feel that it describes me best and reflects my personality, I also like that it includes a picture as it lets the employee see who I am. The only negative I would say about the CV is my bio is not as strong as it could be, I feel as if I need to talk about my experiences more and include more personal achievements rather than media ones as it lets them see who I am as a person. My feedback from Karla on my 2020 CV said ‘I like the colours I feel as if it is very you, it shows your grades and core competencies the only thing I would say is to make you bio longer cause it doesn’t go into too much detail about you as its short’. If I could do this again I would make the whole left hand side of the page my bio so they can really get a feel of who I am. I also accidentally left in the original work references which are a big mistake on my behalf – when it comes to sending my CV out to companies I will make sure to change this.

Show reel

I feel as if my show reel was not my strongest of points in this topic as I did not put the time and effort into it like the other ones. This is due to focusing on side projects and not planning fully for this one – something that I have been trying my best not to do! In previous topics planning has been my weakness so I have been trying to make it my priority – for all other topics on this unit it has been but unfortunately for this particular one I went off task. In the future I will be sure to not go off on a tangent on the last topic and plan weeks ahead so it won’t give me time to fall behind. However, a milestone for me was creating my very own Nike campaign shoe. Fashion has always been my passion so being able to incorporate it into my work was brilliant, it took a lot of hard work and many tantrums but I am so pleased with the outcome and will even go as far to say that it is my best work yet. By doing this side project off my own back it has given me much more confidence in my own work which I feel like I needed and has made me happy to try out new things whereas previously I wanted to create similar things to what I had before. I hope to complete this campaign with at least another shoe as I feel it’s unique and the most ‘me’ work I have done so far! It also shows off my skills in other departments such as graphics and not just film.

Career interview

I feel as if my career interview went really well as I followed the STAR technique that I had learnt a few days before. Using STAR really helped with the structure of my answer as previously I would have rambled a placed things together all in the wrong order – instead I set the scene by explaining where I was from then went into detail with my answer. This will help me in future interviews to answer the questions given fully and eloquently.

In conclusion I feel as if this project has gone really well for me. It has been informative and also given me lots of information to take on board for later life. I am looking forward to using these skills I have learnt in real life situations. If i was to complete this topic again I would make my show reel much more detailed and also give myself more time for little tasks instead of rushing them and / or leaving them until the last moment.

  2. Introduction : 2.2 You have not yet uploaded a UCAS personal statement or online bio to production page. Research a structure for an online bio and upload it to Intro page. Exclude a home page.

Ideas : You have shown Training Interview and some ideas for your future. You have notes but have not yet applied all of your new learning in this unit e.g. how will you improve your wellbeing? What is your 5 year plan in detail? This will be easier to write once you have your SWOT in place.

Research : 1.1 SWOT analysis aneeded to plan individual ambitions. You have identified limited goals for the future upon analysis of your SWOT. Well done so far, Molly. 1.2 You have used progression route knowledge to make appropriate applications to ‘to the end’ productions.

Planning : 3.1 You have imaginative and purposeful planning documentation for the training ‘competencies’ film. Some of your best work.

Production : 2.2 You have not yet used a valid range of communication skills to support own progression goals. You have created a formal letter thus far… You have yet to show that you have created mock interview, showreel, and online bio.

Evaluation : 2.1 You must critically evaluate each of your range of communication skills. Reflect upon these as you create them… you will find this easier to do ‘as you go’. You have used knowledge and understanding of your own promotional and presentational skills and have therefore reflected upon your SWOT and some of your interview technique and identified where you need to work on these for your future. You have detailed that you used ‘STAR’ sufficiently have gone further to explain what these are how are they applied. Don’t forget to show all your referencing and your own understanding in the future.
